Desi Guys And Their Clothes

Kids, Curry Bear would like to take a minute and talk about Desi guys and their clothing. But don't panic - Curry Bear has not turned gay nor did his home get rampaged by the Queer Eye guys. Curry Bear would like to talk for a minute about the fashion scene amongst Desi kids. It seems that every time you see a desi guy, you can pretty much decipher what kind of person he is based on his clothes. It's a bit of prejudice we all have but more often than not, you're right in judging a person based on his clothes. Let's take a moment to analyze some Desi stereotypes in fashion.

Ramayan Game coming to PS3

Kids, for as long as Curry Bear can remember, video games were his gateway into tranquility. There is nothing like the satisfaction of beating a game after killing thousands of bad guys, emptying a million rounds of ammo, shooting up some shroooms and in the process saving a damsel in distress. Game developers have constantly come up with new ideas and story lines for games. However, not many have focused on Indian mythology. It's an untapped market - like Lebanese girls. There's like at least 10 games based on Greek and Roman mythology. But what about us brownies? The only brown people I've ever seen in video games are Apu in The Simpsons game, the Egyptians & Persians in Age of Empires and Mohinder Suresh in the upcoming Heroes game.

Unclejis at Parties

Man, it seems that everywhere I go, Unclejis appear out of nowhere. This would be normal if I were at Oak Tree Road in Iselin shopping for bhendi, cause bhendi is awesome when you eat it with chapati. But lately, I've observed Unclejis in places where I least expect them.

Heyy Babyy - Bollywood Review

It's been a long time since Curry Bear has seen a Bollywood movie. Well, it's been a long time since Curry Bear has seen a good Bollywood movie. This past weekend, Curry Bear saw Heyy Babyy. I guess you could say Curry Bear was in the theater hollerin' Heyy Babyy...yeah that was lame, I won't do it again. Heyy Babyy stars Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, <s>Feroz</s> Fardeen Khan and Vidya Balan. Many of you might think that this is another Bollywood movie stealing plot ideas from the Hollywood movie Three Men And A Baby. But that's where you're wrong! The only thing similar between Heyy Babyy and Three Men A Baby is that Heyy Babyy's plot has three men and a baby.

Here's the basic storyline: Akshay Kumar [Aroush], Ritesh Deshmukh [Tanmay] and <s>Feroz</s>Fardeen Khan [Ali] are bachelors living in Australia and banging chicks left and right. But their life comes to a halt when they wake up one day and find a baby at their doorstep. I always wondered where babies came from. This is all I should say for the plot, because there is a lot more to this movie that you have to watch. Once the baby comes into their lives (which is within the first 20 minutes), their life is in disarray and the jokes keep coming. Oh, and Vidya Balan's in this movie too. She's soooo prettttttyyyyyy.....

Aliens In America - New Show on CW

Curry Bear got an advance screening of the show "Aliens in America". Why? Is it because we are one of the most influential Desi Blogs on the east coast or because I once slept with one of the casting directors? Well the answer is Yes. Curry Bear must admit he was very skeptical about this show. After reading about it on IMDB, and reading many angry posts by Muslims, I thought this show was going to be lame. However I was wrong. This is actually a very good show. It maybe a little on the teeny side, meaning the show is more targeted towards a younger audience. Since it's on the CW network, it isn't a surprise that they want to market towards the same audience that watches Smallville, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural. This might be the best new show on the CW.

This show is about a Pakistani foreign exchange student from Islamabad named Raja Musharaff. He comes to America to a family with a son who has trouble fitting in at school. The son finds himself relating to Raja, who not only is having trouble fitting in at school but in the country as well. Even though many Muslim people commented on this show as being racist, I believe once they actually watch this show they will realize that it is actually the opposite. In fact they should be happy they are not being portrayed as terrorist for once.

The show portrays most Americans as being ignorant to Raja's Desi culture and even accusing "his people" of knocking down the towers. Sadly I am not surprised that quite a few Americans actually believe that. I once saw a clip where a guy thought 9/11 took place in October, and thought Hindus were the ones who knocked down the towers.

How to Lose a Rishta in Ten Ways

Curry Bear has a friend who recently visited Pakistan. Upon going to his motherland, he came across a few problems including diarrhea, blackouts, and BBS (black booger syndrome). However, none of those problems could amount to the millions of women throwing themselves at this young bachelor. Now if your parents are strict in culture, sooner or later they are going to take you out to look at girls that will make you a good wifey. You will sit at the girl's house along with her family and stare at each other from across the room. The girl will run back to her room and cry her eyes out hoping the guy doesn’t like her. Or the guy would go back to his house and whine about how he doesn’t like her. Well Curry Bear is an expert on bonding and losing risthas. Curry Bear had over 20000 risthas thrown his way. Curry bear is the Wilt Chamberlain of the rishta game. Here are some tips on how to get the people you are visiting for a rishta to reject you.

1. Speak American English.- For example, if they ask “how many years are you?”, you reply with “Huh? Oh you mean how old am I?” Make them look dumb.
- Speak English even when they speak to you in Urdu/Hindi/Punjabi/Gujju, especially if their English is terrible. Pretend you don't understand some words because of their thick accent. And then show them how to really pronounce those words.

Kal Penn's Kumar Patel is perhaps the most popular portrayal of Desi youth in a major motion picture (he played a foreign student in the National Lampoon movies, not an AB Desi).
'Khuda Ke Liye' breaks records in Pak

It's the biggest movie in Pakistan since Titanic, and it doesn't involve a naked Kate Winslet.

'Khuda Ke Liye' or In the Name of God has broken records in the country is bound for the international circuit. The movie deals with the touchy subject of the internal war between moderates and radicals in that country. The CS Monitor had this to say about the movie:

7-Elevens turned in to Kwik-e-Marts

A bunch of 7-Elevens around the US and Canada were recently converted to Kwik-e-Marts, the fictional convenient store from the Simpsons. And if you haven't been living under the rock for the past 20 years, you'd know that Kwik-e-Mart is owned by Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, your stereotypical desi 7-Eleven leasee. The was done as part of the promotions for the upcoming Simpsons Movie.

There are only twelve Kwik-e-Marts in North America, so you might have some difficulty in getting to one if you live off-the-grid. Mind you the change isn't just a signboard replacement, the stores are actually selling products from the Simpsons store, such as Squishees, Buzz Cola and Krusty-Os cereal.

Some people seem to think that this is very racist. But then again what isn't? Has the majority of population started liking African Americans since the civil rights movement? I don't think so. Even desis are notoriously racist towards Blacks. So take the sand out of your vaginas and laugh a little, even if you're poking fun at your own kind.

Bonus: Here're some nice shots of a converted store, and some videos on YouTube.
